The WEA Vision: "A better world - equal, democratic and just; through adult education the WEA challenges and inspires individuals, communities and society"

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." W.B. Yeats

This unit has been developed in order to support the delivery of the WEA vision, mission and values. The WEA has recently been through a process to review and refresh these. This process has highlighted the importance of 'education for social purpose' to the WEA. In doing so, it has been recognised that there needs to be a shared understanding across the WEA of:

  • What is meant by the term 'education for social purpose'
  • What this involves in practice

This unit will introduce education for social purpose and will ask you to comment on what your contribution will be as a potential WEA Tutor.

If successful in your application to become a WEA Tutor you will be asked to work through the full Education for Social Purpose Module. For now, and before your interview, please work through this short unit.
